Every so often as I read the news, something pops up about toxins in our make-up, our lotions, and potions – yes… even after the “paraben-free” craze! More toxic chemicals are being identified in everyday use products that we all take for granted. Today I came across one such article. You can read it here.

We need to clean up once and for all! If there are chemicals that are “clearly known as ‘forever chemicals’ which PFAS don’t naturally break down and are linked to a range of serious health problems”, as stated in the article, then why are we not simply banning the use of these chemicals in our make-up? PFAS stands for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances.

One of its online descriptions is: PFAS are a group of chemicals used to make fluoropolymer coatings and products that resist heat, oil, stains, grease, and water. Fluoropolymer coatings can be used in such varied products as clothing, furniture, adhesives, food packaging, heat-resistant non-stick cooking surfaces, and the insulation of the electrical wire.

Crazy is as crazy does! I’m going to look more closely at what I use now. In the meantime, if you feel as crazy as I do for allowing manufacturers to use these ingredients without care given to our health, then it’s time to change our buying habits. Here’s a list of products that likely have PSAF in them:

What kind of makeup are PFAS found in?

  • 82 percent of waterproof mascara.
  • 58 percent of other eye products, such as eyeshadows, eyeliners, and eye creams.
  • 63 percent of foundations.
  • 62 percent of liquid lipsticks.
